Æreskors for tyske mødre Cross of Honor of the German Mother
Pailletter, glimmer, blyant, akryl. Karton.
Sequins, glitter, pencil, acryl. Carton.
Das Mutterkreutz: An Order of Honor / Cross of Honor created by the Nazi Party that was awarded to women according to the number of children born.
- The bronze cross was awarded to mothers with 4 children,
- The silver cross to mothers with 6 children and
- The gold cross to mothers with 8 children.
The intention was clearly to increase the population of Nazi Germany. No less than 3 million Cross of Honor awards were distributed. The award was, however, conditional upon a certificate of pure Aryanism and that the children were of sound mind. The Cross of Honor is reproduced here with play buttons and sequins, purchased from Panduro Hobby, Copenhagen. The image bears no resemblance to the original Cross of Honor.
